THE PODCAST
L.A Not So Confidential
THE PREMIER FORENSIC PSYCHOLOGY PODCAST.
New episodes every WEDNESDAY
L.A. Not So Confidential is a True Crime and Forensic Psychology podcast hosted by two Los Angeles - based psychologists currently working in the criminal justice field. Dr. Shiloh & Dr. Scott have a unique perspective on True Crime as residents of the center of the entertainment world and the birthplace of the Crime Noir genre.
"It’s like getting to overhear forensic psychologists chatting on their lunch break, with asides to explain the more technical terms.”
What kind of psychologists would we be if we didn't have a resource page?
Here you will find the cited works that assisted in our research.
bonus- The Psychology of Goodbye
Welp. Here it is. All the thanks you and goodbyes in the world would not be enough.

214. Poisonings
Cults, Black Widows, and spies, oh my! The act of poisoning has been used by a very diverse set of perpetrators throughout history and all the way up to today. We lay out the foundational research and see how it has been analyzed in case studies, dating back to the 1700's. Jumping off of our last forensic psych episode on true vs false confessions, we explore how moral panic has infiltrated our country's history from the beginning, and how it rose it's ugly head again in the 80's and 90's. It even lingers today (despite some major research in the right direction) in some legal cases and in politically-fueled phenomena.

205. Behind the Couch: True Crime in the News
No guest this week- JUST US! We spend a live hour discussing updates in the Maura Murray case (new evidence, new suspect?), offender prison updates in the Slenderman case, and then jump int othe Zizian Cult out of California and the related murders across the nation.
204. When Bad Things Happen To The Rich
This week we explore the current AND historical animosity that arises between economic classes in times of financial crisis. If there were ever a time for “eat the rich” content to go viral, it’s now. Prices are up, wages are down, and Millennials and Gen Z are working harder than ever—for way less. Despite being the most educated generation, they’re drowning in debt while CEO pay has exploded—now 399 times what the average worker makes. Meanwhile, the middle class is shrinking and billionaires are multiplying like rabbits. So yeah, people are angry—and it’s not hard to see why. Looping in elements from our Attachment Theory AND Affluenza episodes, we'll discuss a few of the incidents currently in the national conversation.
We cover the incidents, and post incident reactions, of the OceanGate disaster and the United healthcare CEO murder.
203. Behind the Couch: "Inconceivable" Producer Jason Usry
This week we get to have a discussion with our amazing colleague, co-creator Jason Usry.
Jason is a multi-time Emmy nominated broadcast media veteran with three movies produced with one in post-production and others currently in development. He's the editor of some of your favorite podcasts (including this one), he's founder of Ear Cult, LLC - a company he's working to build into a multimedia storytelling empire. He's an editor, consultant, creator, storyteller, journalist, and most importantly a friend.
We discuss his newest project, Inconceivable: The Story of Temujin Kensu, an investigation into the 1986 murder of Scott Macklem. Kensu was convicted of the crime, but many believe he was wrongfully convicted. Jason discusses his commitment to approaching this case with an open mind, initially assuming Kensu’s innocence before uncovering more complex truths... revelations that are happening in real time.
202. The Sinister Trifecta: Conduct Disorder, ASPD & Psychopathy
Building on the last few forensic psychology episodes, the doctors explore how attachment disorders intersect with other childhood maladaptive conditions. From there, they trace the troubling progression into even darker psychological phenomena, revealing how these issues can escalate over time.
