For this month's vintage case, we look at another untimely death of one of Hollywood's earliest stars, Ramon Novarro. A Mexican immigrant, Novarro rose to stardom in the silent film era and then transitioned to talking films at a time when the audience was hungry for "Latin lovers" like Rudolph Valentino. His journey to megastardom was deceptively meteoric and required him to hide his sexuality due to the era and the strict studio system. His tragic death came at age 69, at the hands of Paul Ferguson; a murderer who went on to create a post-prison alternative history of the event.

This week the doctors bring you an episode about a Paraphilic Disorder that is often linked with serial sexual offending and killers, Sexual Sadism. We define what it is- and isn't- and how dangerous individuals are when they have a combination of Sexual Sadism and other psychological diagnosis or phenomenon.

This week the docs do a double-subject tackle of THE "OG" true crime documentary from 1988 AND the term "Thin Blue Line." The documentary guides the viewer through a truly mind-blowing miscarriage of justice in the Texas judicial system that put a spotlight on law enforcement, district attorneys and judges, leading to nation wide reform. We also start off with an extensive history of the term "thin blue line" and the associated problematic interpretations.

This week the docs explore the increasingly deadly phenomenon of Road Rage, formerly and less famously known as Highway Hostility. These moments of uncontrolled emotion often lead to criminal acts and the loss of innocent life. This episode goes heavy into the most recent research showing a startling increase in road rage around the world. And, of course, the docs end with a few valuable tips for decreasing the likelihood that you'll get caught in one of these dangerous dilemmas.

The docs once again revisit another delusional disorder, Delusional Parasitosis. In this terrifying disorder, individuals believe that they are infested with parasites or other unidentified organisms despite no concrete evidence supporting this notion. There is controversy surrounding this condition and we explore all of it, and cover a criminal case linked to the disorder as well as film depictions and a celebrity’s journey with the condition. 

This week, Dr. Scott & Dr. Shiloh review the documentary, The Anthrax Attacks on Netflix. This domestic terrorism attack terrified the nation in an already scary time. The docs review & rate the documentary itself, as well as offer some potential psychological hypotheses for the offender.

In this week’s episode, “Scared Straight: Reform Schools”, the docs review the very concerning history of the way various states in the US have historically (and now currently) handled juveniles deemed “out of control.” From incarceration, to reform schools and now the trend of “wilderness camps,” young people are forced by into brutal environments by sketchy and poorly trained facilitators. From children of the average American family all the way to celebrities themselves, the experiences were rarely positive. For years ineffective interventions have move across the line from discipline into torture, leaving emotional scars that take years to heal.

This week, as promised in the past vintage episode, we discuss the story of Erna Janoschek. Erna was a teen in the late 1920's tasked with a very grown up job. We explore her family history, developmental background, and the stressors present in her life that led to her decision to take the life of a child within her care.

The docs provide some real discussion of the challenges of adoption as well as a framework of attachment styles and potential trauma.
